Good health is the best wealth

Author Tania Ruelas

In many languages, it is custom to say the word ‘health’ when making a toast. Although there are a few theories about the origin of this tradition (some of which go back to the ancient Greece), the part that remains valid for many countries is this: saying ‘health’ out loud while raising a glass is a symbol of friendship, good will, prosperity and, most importantly, best wishes. In other words: for many people around the world, there is nothing more valuable to wish for -and make a toast to- than health. And after a year like the one we just had, it is easy to understand why!

As the title of this article points out, good health is the best wealth. It makes you wonder: how wealthy am I? And even more: can everyone be equally wealthy when it comes to health? Sadly, ‘our world is an unequal one. Some people are able to live healthier lives and have better access to health services than others. This is not only unfair: it is preventable,’ which is why the World Health Organization (WHO) is calling for action this month on the World Health Day 2021 to ‘build a fairer, healthier world for everyone’.  And we must all do our part.

According to the WHO, health is central to human happiness and well-being. As a matter of fact, there is a popular quote by the Dalai Lama that states: “happiness is the highest form of health”. To follow up the original question: what am I doing to be wealthy (a.k.a. healthy)?  Keep in mind that ‘health is not just about physical well-being, but also about the mental and social aspects; a person is said to be healthy if he/she possesses all three’. Taking care of your mental and social health is just as important as looking after your physical state. That is why we at Dash Access & Inclusion Services are committed to include good mental health practises in everything we do, and to support those whose life quality can significantly improve by increasing their social health.

A healthy population not only lives longer, but also makes an important contribution to their country and global progress. A good state of health allows a person to be productive, and therefore, takes part in their self-fulfillment. So, to wrap it up: being healthy is a step to be happy! But first, we must make ourselves a priority, and be aware that it is not enough to make a toast and wish for good health: one must work hard to make a fortune, even more to possess the best wealth! And for that, you can count on us.
